What about your profession lights you up?

My profession is not a passion of mine, I work in finance. I had planned to go to medical school, unfortunately, that was not the case and I currently work for the family business.

Where do you find inspiration?

Traveling inspired me. Pre-covid I would travel often. Traveling to Mexico reminds me of my childhood and growing up in Baja California. The food, culture and people bring me a sense of comfort and home.

What interests are a large part of your identity?

I don’t consider hobbies or interests part of my identity, they are just simply things I enjoy doing.

Puzzling helps me turn off my brain, if I am stressed out I start a new puzzle and take my time with it.

I enjoy learning about strange medical facts, overall strange history fascinates me.

Where can we find you on the weekend?

Weekends are my only free time. I typically clean the house, do laundry, and water the plants. In the afternoons I get takeout with my family and stop by my favorite coffee/matcha shop.

Venturing out to the local antique mall is a favorite, I love antique/vintage furniture. Nothing compares to the craftsmanship and history behind an antique/vintage piece.

If you are ever in San Diego, I recommend Kurtz Street Vintage Marketplace, Hood Mod Shop, and Bad Madge.

How do you slow down after a long week?

By taking a long walk with my dogs, going for a swim, or anything that gets me outside to breathe fresh air.

What slow moments do you savor the most?

Having the freedom to do nothing. During the week I stare at a screen 24/7. Once I get my chores and errands out of the way, I just want to enjoy doing nothing.

What moments bring you the most joy?

Having alone time, I’m a true introvert! As much as I love my friends and family, being alone recharges me the most.

Do you have any rituals that help keep your mind clear?

If I am feeling particularly overwhelmed I schedule a session over the phone with my therapist, and take a walk while talking to her. I’m in a privileged position where I can afford and have access to a mental health professional. She has helped with my anxiety and other issues.

Mental health is still very much stigmatized in the Mexican community, finding someone you can trust, and create a bond with is helpful in moving towards internal healing.

What does consuming thoughtfully mean to you?

Shopping sustainably/thoughtfully means buying pieces that fit my body well, are made from natural materials, fit my personal style, and I can wear year-round. Since I live in southern California, a long dress is a staple that I can wear year-round.

How did you learn to dress for yourself?

I’ve always been drawn to tailored clothing, trousers, loafers, blazers. Since I’m plus-sized it has been challenging finding clothes that not only fit me well but, are my style, and good quality. Sometimes that leaves me in the position of having to choose a brand that is not sustainable/ethical. In those instances, I have to ask myself, “Will I wear this for more than 3 years down the line?” “How many outfits can I make with this piece?”.

What are you wearing when you feel the most like yourself?

In the hotter months, a long dress with boots. It’s easy and I can stay cool all day long.

For cooler weather, a statement blazer, silk shirt, trousers/skirt, and loafers. Accessories always make an outfit for me, I will always choose a structured bag over a catch-all bag.

What do you love about the ZX style you chose, and how has it filled gaps in your wardrobe?

I love how comfortable, versatile, and timeless they are. I didn’t previously have a comfortable thong-style sandal. The Rio goes with everything and I can wear them all day long.
