The Spring Issue: SS21 Collection Guide

Introducing The Spring Issue. Inspired by what we wear when we have things to do and places to go, but the leisure to wear what truly makes us feel like ourselves. The SS21 collection is a creative exploration of embracing comfort and personal style with confidence.

Gathering inspiration references and crafting a vision for the collection is the most challenging, yet liberating part of the design process.

This season is heavily influenced by color, film, and styling references.

The silhouettes are largely inspired by the protagonist of the short film Nadja a Paris (1964).

Nadja is a sophisticated American graduate student who balances her time between student life and long unstructured days and nights exploring the city.

The collection imagines what each of us would wear today on our journey of exploration (like Nadja) as we embrace a life filled with comfort, leisure, and confidence in self-expression.

This season balances classic and modern shapes with purpose and functionality while pushing the limits of traditional footwear and styling pairings. Designed with comfort in mind, each silhouette will carry you through your day with style.

The Quinta sandal is an effortless slide that pairs well with oversized dresses or relaxed pants. It’s an easy choice for strolls around the park, running errands, or meeting a friend.

The Inia flat or Pilar mule instantly elevates any look business or casual. Either is a perfect pairing for a smooth transition from the office to reading in a cafe.

The Delfina and Rio have a sleek and modern feeling that balances well with casual pieces like vintage denim and an oversized button-down. Both styles are an effortless choice for dinner and drinks with friends.

The Pileta sport slide has a simple silhouette that is incredibly functional thanks to its chunky rubber lug sole, making it perfect for bike rides, park picnics, or a night out. Pair it with your favorite casual and formal looks for an instantly elevated yet, understated look.

The Eugenia flat, Mule, and Lagos slides in the season’s new palette are perfect for updating your summer uniform for downtime wandering solo.

Like always, every pair of Zou Xou shoes are thoughtfully and ethically crafted by artisans in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

A closer look behind the design anatomy shows what makes the Rio sandal special. Featuring a leather link detail across the instep, a square toe, and a toe ring the Rio has a sleek, naked feel.

The upper is constructed entirely from surplus leather scraps collected from the cutting room floor, making them one of our most resourceful styles.

The Rio looks modern and yet, gives off a laidback feeling when styled with classic pieces.

This season is filled with colors that evoke a narrative of new experiences, and the energy of exploration.

Inspired by our craving for the colors of the coast and a need for warmth, the collection allows you to travel simply through what you choose to wear that day while being as bold or minimal as you choose.

As you embark on your narrative, we hope this collection inspires you to reinvent the mundane and embrace the art of wearing what truly makes you feel like yourself.

Tips to enjoy your favorite spring/summer styles longer:

  • Keep shoes with leather soles away from mud and water.

  • Wipe shoes clean with a cotton rag as needed.

  • Use tissue paper or a lightweight plastic shoe tree to prevent crushing/creasing when traveling.

  • Air-dry wet shoes in an elevated position. Never use a direct or indirect heat source. This dries out and degrades the quality of the leather.

  • It’s natural for the sock lining (the part of the insole the stamp on it) of the sandals to lift with wear – if this happens, use a bit of contact cement from the hardware store to glue it back in place. No visit to the shoe repair shop required!
